Who Can Become an Aesthetic Practitioner in the UK?

What qualifications do you need to start aesthetics training?

A career in aesthetics is rewarding, flexible and in high demand — but it’s important to start with the right foundation.

To train in aesthetic treatments safely and professionally, most reputable academies require you to already hold a relevant qualification in beauty or healthcare.

At our academy, we accept:

  • Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualified professionals

  • Medical professionals (including nurses, doctors and prescribing practitioners)

  • Dental nurses

If you do not yet hold one of these qualifications, you will typically need to complete an approved Level 3 Beauty Therapy course or relevant medical training before progressing into aesthetics.

What Is the Career Pathway for Aesthetics in the UK?

What steps do you need to follow to become an aesthetic practitioner?

Understanding the correct pathway is essential for building a safe, successful and insurable career.

Step 1: Gain Your Foundation Qualification
This could be Level 3 Beauty Therapy or a recognised medical qualification.

Step 2: Complete In-Person Practical Training
Hands-on, in-person training is essential for treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. This ensures you develop the skills, confidence and safety knowledge required to treat real clients.

Step 3: Gain Insurance & Work Within Your Scope of Practice
After training, you’ll need appropriate insurance and to work within your level of training and competence.

Step 4: Continue Developing Your Skills
Aesthetics is an evolving industry. Ongoing training and refinement are key to long-term success.

Why Is In-Person Aesthetics Training Important?

Why can’t aesthetics be learned through theory alone?

Aesthetics is a hands-on industry that cannot be learned safely through theory alone.

In-person training allows you to:

  • Work on live models

  • Learn safe, correct techniques

  • Build confidence under supervision

  • Gain real practical experience

This is essential for delivering safe treatments and achieving high-quality results.

How Can You Improve Your Aesthetic Techniques After Training?

What are the best ways to refine your skills as a practitioner?

Once you have completed your initial training, developing your technique is essential for achieving consistent, high-quality results.

Many practitioners choose to continue learning through additional resources, including advanced training, mentorship and technique-focused education.

Our advanced training videos are designed for practitioners who want to:

  • Refine their injection techniques

  • Improve precision and consistency

  • Enhance client results

  • Build confidence in specific treatments

These resources are intended for trained practitioners and are designed to support ongoing development, not replace beginner or accredited practical training.

Please note:
These videos are intended for already qualified and trained practitioners and are not a substitute for entry-level/in person training.
